Vandalism on Lakeshore
Received the following email yesterday from Terri McLarey:
This afternoon 11/7 at approximately 4:00 pm our mailbox was hit with what looks like to be a hammer or bat.  A large hole  was knocked into the side of the brick.  If anyone has any information on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Adopt-A-Cat
This from Kelly Smith:
I have a wonderful three year old black kitty that needs a new home.  She is short haired and very loving but isn’t getting along well with her sister kitty.  She is declawed (front),  fixed, litter trained and loves dogs but needs to be the only kitty in the house.  She is now living on the back porch with my dog and she needs a good home before winter.

She is my personal favorite but the sister kitty is my daughters..  Shady is smart, loves to be on your lap or chest for a nap and if your on the computer too long she will get your attention.  Shady is a great cat and deserves a better home life than the back porch and very friendly.  I don’t want to take her to the Humane Society, I would much rather have her close by so my son can visit occasionally, if that is permitted.  We haven’t had any more problems since we separated the kitty’s, so I know it is a territorial thing that we can’t live with.  If you happen to know of anyone wanting a grown kitty I would consider that as well.  Thanks for your time and hope to hear from someone soon.  I will even let someone test drive for a few days, she will win your heart.

Fun at the Fall Festival, 10/31/2009

What a nice time we had at the Country Place Fall Festival and Hayride. Our thanks to Lee Kodet, Ken Terrell, Tom Perry, Lane Norvell, and everyone who worked hard to make it a success. I snapped photos and posted a slide show (click the image above to see the gallery).

This is always an opportunity to visit with folks we don’t see often and to see how much the kids have grown.

The Duck on Lake #3

082209_Barack_0159
I don’t know where he came from, but for perhaps a year or more we’ve had a guest on Lake #3.  Since our lab, Kratos, likes to swim in the lake, we walk by most mornings. An affable dog who wants to be friends with everyone and everything (ie, he is pals with most of the dogs we meet, two cats and B.O. the donkey), it was a bit shocking to see his reaction to the duck. He bristles, puffs up, growls and generally goes butch whenever he sees the duck.

I did a bit of research and found out that our duck is a Muscovy. Originally from South America, they have been imported into many countries, particularly Russia, where they are used for food (the breast meat is compared to sirloin and is 98% fat-free) and for mosquito and fly control. You can read more (a lot more) about this interesting species here.

New Neighbors in Country Place

We’d like to take this opportunity to welcome several new neighbors to Country Place:

The Littles, Brent & Melissa, have purchased the home at 19065 Lakeshore Dr (formerly the Andros’s). You’ll see their four children, 11-year triplets Anna, Isaac & Emma, and 8-year-old Ethan, playing in the yard.

The Wallaces, Bill & Terry, have bought the home at 19651 Oak Meadow Circle. They moved here from Wyoming and have been busy adding a new pool to the backyard. Terry is a talented quilter and you can see some of her creations at www.wildhorsequilts.com.

The Tosh’s, Sondra and Terry, are now ensconced at 19155 Big Timber Road, the former Hibbard home. Terry is a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel who still works in research and development.Paul and Tammy Lawless have just purchased 3036 Ridgetop Rd, formerly the home of the Luchaks. They will be moving from Florida with their son, Joseph, who will be a 9th-grader at Whitehouse High School.
