Smith County has begun the repaving process in Country Place and there’s been some confusion about the steps involved. I spoke to Charles Kirby, the engineer in charge of the project, who explained that the preparation for repaving involves several steps:
- Replacing the culverts that run under the road
- Repairing the sections of pavement that are falling apart by first removing all the old asphalt and the oil sand which was the original road here in Country Place, then replacing with new asphalt on the red clay base
- Scoring the road to improve bonding between old and new asphalt
- Putting down a layer of SS1 Tack (a sort of super glue which will prevent the new layer of asphalt from shifting once it is applied)
- Repaving with new asphalt all the county roads in the neighborhood (Lakeshore is private, as are the sections of road that lead up to the Old Lake #1 and to the three residences at the end of Copperoaks
We will have some inconvenience for a while (it’s a long process), but the final result will be smoother travels through our neighborhood for years to come.
