Perfect Weather for Spring Picnic

The cool and wet East Texas spring we’d been experiencing abated earlier this week to (partially) dry out Three Lakes Park and the day of the picnic couldn’t have been more glorious…clear and cool.

Thanks to Rachel McGee and Sarah Devendorf for their work in putting together this year’s Easter egg hunt and picnic. Thanks to Ricky Koss for mowing the huge Rosebrook front lawn; the kids had a ball running all over it finding eggs. Jake Boring found the egg with the gold key and won the stuffed Easter bunny…which he offered to share with big sister Kannon. Lee Kodet was joined at the grill this year by his daughter, Sammy, and David Schaub’s friend from Air Force days, JJ…the burgers, franks and sausages were all delicious. As were so many of the dishes prepared and brought by those who attended (several ladies cornered Lynette Fletcher for her dessert recipe). Mom, Andrea and I enjoyed meeting visiting with out-going board president Travis Hunt as well as the Duke’s, the Gallaway’s, Earl Drott and others.

Our two scheduled events, the Easter Egg Hunt/Spring Picnic and Fall Festival/Hayride, are such a wonderful way to get to know your neighbors. If you didn’t get to join us yesterday, please make it a point to attend in the fall.

Neighborhood Vitality

One of the clearest signs of a healthy neighborhood are updates and maintenance, so it’s good to see painters, chimney sweeps, yard crews, and masons working in Country Place.  Today, for instance, Enviro-Care is working on a new retaining wall for Jim and Dolly Walker at 19551 Lakeshore. Across the street at Ron & Debbie Rogers’ home, Flamingo Pools is busy clearing trees in preparation for building a new swimming pool. And at 19186 Big Timber, construction workers at Al & Kelly Flanagan’s are busy adding square footage in anticipation of their 4th child.

We had a lovely afternoon for our Fall Festival this year. As he has for twenty-plus years, Tom Perry organized the hayride with his usual attention to detail. Drivers included Lane Norvell, Steve Jackson, Brent Little, Earl Drott, Travis Hunt, Gary Fain, and Nick Moore. Treaters included the Maxwell’s, Boudreaux’s, Hunt’s, Graves, Strickland’s (Gary & Melissa), Duke’s, Lynch’s, Hayden’s, Rayburn’s, Regan’s, Magee’s, Tanner’s, Norvell’s, Koss’s, Henderson’s, and the Douglass’s. Our thanks to Mark and Renee Groskreutz for sharing their home as the site of our picnic. Lee Kodet and David Schaub did the grilling, and many families brought dishes to share.
