New Neighbors in Country Place

We’d like to take this opportunity to welcome several new neighbors to Country Place:

The Littles, Brent & Melissa, have purchased the home at 19065 Lakeshore Dr (formerly the Andros’s). You’ll see their four children, 11-year triplets Anna, Isaac & Emma, and 8-year-old Ethan, playing in the yard.

The Wallaces, Bill & Terry, have bought the home at 19651 Oak Meadow Circle. They moved here from Wyoming and have been busy adding a new pool to the backyard. Terry is a talented quilter and you can see some of her creations at www.wildhorsequilts.com.

The Tosh’s, Sondra and Terry, are now ensconced at 19155 Big Timber Road, the former Hibbard home. Terry is a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel who still works in research and development.Paul and Tammy Lawless have just purchased 3036 Ridgetop Rd, formerly the home of the Luchaks. They will be moving from Florida with their son, Joseph, who will be a 9th-grader at Whitehouse High School.

With all the new residents we may need to update our Country Place Directory soon! Melissa Little and her daughters, Anna & Emma, exercise in the neighborhood.

Mary Shaffer’s Kayak Class

It’s so nice to see people enjoying our lakes. Kratos and I were  walking one morning and saw Mary and Mike Shaffer entertaining nieces and nephews on Lake #3. Mike was fishing with one group and Mary was teaching her great-nephew, Cooper, to use a kayak.

Tree Removal on Lake #3 Dam

In years past we have had studies presented to the Lakes & Parks committee members that showed trees growing on pond dams can be harmful to the dam itself as the trees mature.  Essentially  the roots grow into the dam but when they die the roots decay leaving  a weakened porous dam that can break.

In the 20 plus years that I have lived in Country Place, I do not believe the trees have ever been removed from Lake 3 dam.  They are now reaching the size that  harmful  root growth will become a problem.  I have asked Andrew Roman to give us a bid on removing those trees along the dam. I asked for 2 bids, one,on the  tree and brush removal and burning the brush at the site..  A second bid on using a chipper to strew the chips along the back side of the dam which would in effect be fertilizer.  In both bids I asked for a root kill to be applied so that the trees would not return from the stump.  Andrew checked this out and reported his research showed that the chemicals used to stop future growth might be harmful to the water and to fish.  I will  check this out myself to see if any chemical is available that we might use.

The bids are:
Tree and brush removal and burned on the site.  $350
Trees and brush removal and chipped on site.     $600.

Both bids seem reasonable to me.

Of course we can have a work day and do the work our selves if the board would like that.  I am willing to do what I can.
