Country Place Visitors

Last week during our morning walks Kratos and I saw two birds hunting along Copperoaks. They were lighter in color, more streamlined, and had more pointed wings than our local hawks. This morning I asked one of our neighbors, an avid birder, about them and he said they were Mississippi Kites just passing through on their migration south, perhaps as far as Argentina.

Deer in Country Place: Great Shot!

I received this wonderful photograph yesterday and had to share it with everyone along with the Bledsoe’s email accompanying:

Hi Larry-
There is a lot of sad news for our web site and newsletter this winter. The fire at the Smith’s and the passing of Carl Reis… Both these families have a long history with Country Place.

On a more happy note, Nick was playing around with his new telephoto lens and took the attached picture of the deer that visit our area up on Ridgetop. They like to rest in our back yard and eat over in the Reis’s yard and Dr. Green’s large front yard. I imagine a lot of residents see them. One of them is a male with tiny spikes just beginning to show. Nick also saw a 8 point buck right before Thanksgiving -chasing the doe’s. Hopefully we’ll have more baby deer this spring.

Gunfire Near Country Place

Saturday, March 1st, at about 5:00pm, the sound of gunfire reverberated around Oak Meadow Circle. For the next hour-and-a-half we heard at least three weapons, one a semi-automatic, fire dozens of rounds. As far as we could tell, the shooters were just south of us off CR 129. At one point I called the sheriff’s department and was told that unless the rounds were hitting our house, there was nothing they could do.
We love our peace-and-quiet here in Country Place and it was very unsettling to hear this kind of commotion so nearby. It served as a reminder, though, that we really do live in a “country” place.

[Some time after this post, we learned that Earl Drott, who lives in the neighborhood, hosts the Boy Scouts on his acreage south of Coutry Place so that they can earn their Riflery badges.]

Garage Sales in Country Place?

Our new association vice-president, Pete Galbraith, has suggested that we set aside a weekend or two a year for Country Place residents to hold garage sales. While we are in the process of updating our deed restrictions, now is a good time to open this up for discussion. Your input will be appreciated.

[Feedback was not positive, so the idea of having garage sales in Country Place has been shelved for now.]
